AviClear™

All forms of acne are a result of unhealthy oil glands. Unhealthy, or what Dr. Gross has coined as “sick”, oil glands produce an overly thick & heavy oil. Instead of flowing like a liquid, this type of oil has a honey-like consistency which doesn’t travel well through pores and gets trapped, ultimately leading to acne.

Only 50% of people with acne have oily skin, however all people with acne have a percentage of oil glands that are unhealthy. To successfully treat acne, you need to target these “sick” oil glands.

AviClear laser is a first-of-its-kind, revolutionary treatment that uses a specific wavelength to target these “sick” oil glands which lead to acne.
In the past, we’ve had lasers with specific wavelengths that target skin issues like brown spots, redness, blood vessels and laser hair removal – but there’s never been a type of laser that can target the oil glands. Until now.

AviClear works by suppressing these “sick” oil glands and preventing them from producing thick, low-quality oil which leads to breakouts.

AviClear has become the new go-to treatment for acne because it is safe and effective on all skin tones without downtime and, best of all, you see long-lasting results in just three, 30-minute treatments.

    Real Patient Reviews

"I have been cared for by Dr. Dennis Gross for many years, and always receive thorough, professional care. Since I was a sun lover for many years, I develop skin cancers, especially on my face. Dr. Gross is such a great surgeon, my scars are barely visible. Plus he is so kind and reassuring, as is his staff."

    FAQs

How does AviClear compare to Accutane?

AviClear is an excellent alternative to Accutane – the new gold standard for an acne cure after lesser measures like tretinoin and internal medications have failed. Research shows that results for acne improvement and treatment by AviClear equals the success of Accutane – without the side effects.

Accutane, while effective, is associated with undesirable side effects such as over-dry skin, depression and birth defects. Patients using Accutane must also take monthly blood tests because it can alter the lipid levels of the body and create an abnormal condition. Overall, it’s a very challenging medication.

AviClear takes all of that off the table – no pills, no blood tests, no risks, no downtime plus is FDA-cleared for all skin types and tones.

Will AviClear work on perimenopause & menopausal acne?

Absolutely. When going through perimenopause & menopause, hormones are undergoing a stage of rapid fluctuation which changes oil chemistry. Our oil glands have receptors for hormones – when hormones fluctuate, it causes oil glands to produce oil that is too heavy for its own good.

Again, the issue is with the quality of oil – not the quantity. This is why people going through perimenopause and menopause can have acne and also complain of dry skin.

How long does the treatment take?

Treating a full face can take 30-40 minutes

Can it be done on darker skin types?

Yes! AviClear is completely safe for all skin types and tones!

    Is it painful?

There is some mild discomfort when treating active breakouts. It is not a classic “snapping” sensation like most lasers. It is more of a warming sensation.

    Can you use topical numbing?

Unfortunately, because the skin needs to be COMPLETELY degreased to have best absorption of energy, we cannot use topical numbing. If patients are concerned about pain, they can take 2 tylenol, 45 minutes to an hour before treatment.

    Is there downtime?

Patients will experience immediate redness post treatment; this can last up to 24 hours. Some patients will also experience purging within the first 7 days post procedure which we would recommend coming in for an LED treatment to help kill bacteria & reduce inflammation. They can also use the faceware pro at home.

    Is it only for face?

No, you can also use this for breakouts anywhere on the body.

Can you do Aviclear if you are currently on Accutane or have taken it recently?

Yes, no issue. Unlike some other lasers, Aviclear is not contraindicated with photo-sensitizing medications.

    How many treatments are necessary?

We recommend a minimum of 3 treatments to treat moderate to severe acne. 8-12 weeks after the third we will do a follow up to determine if we should continue with the program to further results.

    How long between treatments?

4 weeks in between treatments are ideal- if it needs to be spread out further due to scheduling issues, 8 weeks would be the max. If in consultation the provider suggests additional treatments in between, that is usually on the 2-week increment.

    Are the results immediate?

Individual responses may vary, but on average there should start to be clearance within 2 weeks of the first treatment and only improve as the process continues.

    How long do results last?

Results will only improve over time. Not only are we clearing active breakout, but we are truly changing the patients oil production which will prevent new breakouts indefinitely. All of the patients that were a part of the initial study are still clear 2+ year out.

Can you use it to spot treat individual breakout?

It is recommended that when doing AviClear you always treat the full face, even if the breakout is only in one specific area. The reason for this is because once you disrupt the oil production in one specific area, it could trigger other areas to start over- producing. By treating the entire face, it is not only correcting current issues, but preventing future ones.

Can you have aviclear while pregnant?

No, we do not recommend it.
