Treat Hyperhidrosis in New York
Excessive Sweating Treatment on Fifth Avenue, NYC
Excessive sweating—also called hyperhidrosis—occurs when sweat glands are overactive, producing perspiration beyond what the body needs for temperature control. It can be primary (often starting in childhood or adolescence with no single identifiable cause) or secondary to medications or medical conditions. Common contributors for excessive sweating in New York include heat, stress, exercise, spicy foods, and caffeine. We carefully review the cause of excessive sweating and the cause of profuse sweating during your visit to tailor an effective plan. Whether you notice sweating on the feet and hands, excessive face sweating, or underarm perspiration, we focus on practical, medical solutions that fit your lifestyle.
At Dr. Dennis Gross Dermatology, we listen first and craft a step-by-step plan designed around your concerns and goals.

Common Excessive Sweating Concerns
When Increased Sweating Becomes a Medical Concern
Consider an evaluation if increased sweating interferes with daily life, work, sports, or social activities.
Signs include:
If this sounds familiar, we can discuss an excessive sweating treatment plan that may include topical care, devices, or in-office procedures.
Treatment Options We Offer
Topicals and Medical Grade Skincare
We often begin with medical grade skincare and prescription antiperspirants. Options can include high-strength aluminum chloride solutions for the underarms, hands, or feet; glycopyrronium cloths for focal areas; and routine strategies to reduce irritation while maintaining results. These noninvasive choices can be effective for mild to moderate hyperhidrosis and are easy to integrate into a daily routine.
BOTOX® Hyperhidrosis Treatment
BOTOX® hyperhidrosis treatment works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that activate sweat glands. It is FDA approved for severe primary axillary (underarm) hyperhidrosis that has not responded to topical agents. We may also use BOTOX® off-label for sweaty palms, soles, or certain facial areas when appropriate. Treatment sessions are quick, with little to no downtime, and results typically reduce perspiration for 3–6 months before a maintenance visit.
Additional Therapies for Excessive Sweating
Based on your pattern of symptoms, we may recommend iontophoresis for sweaty palms and soles, or oral medications (such as anticholinergics) when focal treatments are not enough. In select cases, we coordinate care for energy-based devices or surgical consultations; these approaches are reserved for specific indications. Our goal is a safe, sustainable excessive sweating treatment plan that fits your routine and preferences.
What to Expect at Your Visit
Your visit begins with a detailed history and exam to map your sweating pattern and triggers. When needed, we can perform a starch‑iodine test to pinpoint active sweat zones and review lab work or medications that might contribute. From there, we outline clear options—from medical grade skincare to BOTOX® for hyperhidrosis—so you understand benefits, timing, and follow-up.
Most topical plans start working within days to weeks. After BOTOX® hyperhidrosis treatment, reduction in sweating is usually noticeable within 3–7 days, with full effect by about two weeks. Temporary tenderness or bruising can occur; hand treatments may rarely cause short-lived grip weakness. We provide aftercare guidance to keep skin comfortable and help you return to normal routines quickly.

Primary hyperhidrosis is linked to overactivity of the sympathetic nerves that control sweat glands. Secondary causes include medications (for example, some antidepressants) or medical conditions such as thyroid disease. We evaluate for both during your consultation.
Most patients enjoy 3–6 months of drier skin after BOTOX® for hyperhidrosis, with duration varying by treatment area and individual metabolism. Maintenance sessions help sustain results over time.
Coverage varies by plan and diagnosis. Some insurers may cover FDA‑approved underarm treatment after topical therapies. We can provide documentation you may submit to your plan; HSA/FSA funds may be applicable in many cases.
